Jail Ministry
We have all probably at least felt "boxed in" or "behind bars" at some point in our lives... separated from others due to the consequences of our actions. Thankfully, we were never alone. No matter how secluded we may have felt, God was ALWAYS with us. And, hopefully, the grace and forgiveness through Jesus Christ was shared by someone through words and actions.
For some men and women the physical separation from family and friends is very real as they carry out sentences or await trials in Broward County jails. At Christ Church, we hear the call of Jesus to "visit the imprisoned" and to share the hope and promises found in him. Restoration begins as we proclaim the Good News through Scripture and pray with those who feel lost and alone. No experience with jail is necessary, but often the best visitors are those who have "been there" and can share how God has changed their lives. If you would like to volunteer one night to see if God is calling you to be a part of this vital ministry, temporary clearance may be obtained by choosing a date to attend with a team member and providing basic information to Pastor Fawn. Clearance usually takes up to 2 weeks. For more information, please contact Pastor Fawn Mikel by email or at 954.771.7300 x250.
Our Men's Jail Ministry visits every Wednesday nights at 7pm, in Pompano Beach. You may reach Verano Hermida at 954.784.9488 for additional information. Many of the team members visit every week, but once each month is standard. All long-term jail ministry team members must complete a small amount of paperwork, provide a copy of your driver's license, a passport-size picture, and attend an orientation class given by the Broward County Sherriff's department.
