During the last week of the "Improve Your Serve" message series in 2007, people had an opportunity to participate in a variety of service projects. Monday through Sunday, participants served in simple ways, such as picking up trash on the beach, painting nails at a local nursing home, and handing out coffee and donuts to newspaper sellers at major intersections. There was a great response to the week, both from the volunteers and the people who were served. It was an amazing experience for everyone involved... so we decided to make it a yearly event.
When we began planning for the next year's event, we spoke with the people of Menlo Park Presbyterian Church in California about their "Compassion Weekend." After hearing their advice, and following much discussion and prayer, we changed the format of our event in 2008. Instead of a week-long schedule of projects, we moved to a concentrated weekend of offerings, and we named the weekend... SERVE.EVERYBODY.
March 5-7, 2010 marked our third year of SERVE.EVERYBODY. The leadership team (made up of dedicated volunteers) decided to sharpen the focus of this year's projects to address some of the largest needs in our community. We will be partnering with ministries such as Habitat for Humanity, 4Kids, Hope Central, The Shepherd's Way, God's Little Lambs, Taylor's Closet, Carry-Out for Kids, and Blessings Food Pantry.
SERVE.EVERYBODY. does not begin or end the weekend of March 5-7. God doesn't call us to serve people one weekend out of the year. But it is a wonderful way to demonstrate to the people around us that we are a church who cares about them.
Join us 2011 as we show God's love through our words... and, more importantly, through our actions!
