Why SERVE.EVERYBODY.? "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind." This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself"(Matthew 22:37-39).
![]() When Jesus is asked to name the greatest commandment, he responds by naming these two commandments: love God with everything that is in you, and love the people around you. He reminds us that if we love God, we'll also begin to grow in our love for our neighbors. Our most authentic expressions of love for others are rooted in the knowledge of God's perfect love for us. One flows naturally into the other.
This is the motivation behind SERVE.EVERYBODY. Serving is an essential part of who we are as Christians, as much a part of us as worship, study, and prayer. God designed us to need each other, and reaching out to people in love stretches us in ways that cause us to depend more fully on God.![]() We are called to serve others in love year-round. But each year at Christ Church we also have a concentrated weekend of serving opportunities. This year, for three days, March 5-7, 2010, we stepped out of our regular pattern of worship services, and worshipped God through serving others! After the conclusion of the projects on Sunday afternoon, we gathered as a community in our Sanctuary in Fort Lauderdale to celebrate all that was accomplished during the weekend.
